Of brochs, castles, ferries and rain...
Jun. 20th, 2006 10:03 pmNext and probably last update, till I get home! Today was our anniversary, and we had a really good time. OK it was cold, SOAKING wet with horizontal rain at times, but hey, that's what you expect in the Western Isles! Bet the elves didn't have the same problem sailing west....

The view from our bedroom window...jealous much?

I bought a cardigan thingy, awfully like the jacket I designed for Seel! (But I STILL want you to make that for me Jay!)

This was the ferry we caught to take us back across to the mainland for the day. We have just got off, us and the one other car...

The Broch. Brochs are totally unique to the west coast of Scotland, they are from the iron age period, around 2000 years old, and were defensive structures possible to repel Roman slavers but no one is certain. They are round towers when complete, with a double skin of beautifully laid dry stones. As a rough scale, Simon could stand up, just, in the bottom opening.

The staircase inside up between the two skins was amazing...

...and I loved the quality of light. I have to admit I took about 30 pics, JUST of the brochs!

Eilan Donan castle, actually this was LOVINGLY restored in the 1930's, but has to be the most romantic castle in Scotland!

The rain. Plockton.

'Creelers' restaurant! This outstanding fish restaurant also sells the fish and chips from the back door. The wee boy has just bought his supper!
Off to Portree tomorrow, further up the island...
