Interview with [livejournal.com profile] ilye_elf

What is your fondest memory as a child?

Hmm, this is tricky actually, as a lot of good memories got waylaid by the less pleasant ones in my teens! However, probably walking round the City of London on an empty Sunday afternoon with my Grandad, until I was about 11, and my favourite trip to Ridley Road Market, Dalston, that involved eating Pie and Mash and taking home the best jam doughnuts in the world from the Jewish bakers. (Yes I realise that there are two, but I had to include Pie and Mash in there somewhere).

What would you say is the most embarrassing thing you've ever said or done?

Probably reaching into my handbag in a meeting with a client and pulling out a tampon instead of a pen.

What artist or style of art would you say has had the most influence on the way you draw, or is there anything in particular that you aim to emulate from this?

Argh…I have lots. I grew up with comics, DC and Marvel and certainly that whole genre has had a HUGE influence on me. Probably
Patrick Caulfield in terms of the clean black outlines and use of colour. In terms of ‘story telling’ and fantastic figure drawing, probably
Paula Rego
, though David Hockney comes pretty darned close!

Who was your biggest role model?

My Grandad who raised me. He taught me acceptance of others, and gave me a strong sense of justice and fairness. He was a life-long socialist and believer and supporter of human rights.

Who is my non-biological father?!

Ah. Been meaning to talk to you about that. It was a cold night…I was pissed…he was gorgeous…how was I expected to say ‘no’?
