'SIN CITY ROCKS'!!!!!

For anyone who likes comic books and graphic novels (me) and anyone who likes Robert Rodriguez as a Director (also me) this film is wonderful!

It had me and middle son laughing out loud and wincing with the comic-book violence. The filming was brilliant, all in black and white with touches of colour (the red of a dress and matching lipstick, blue eyes on a girl, a blue car) and really felt like a pulp comic on the screen. Basically three or four slightly linked stories (shades of pulp fiction) but that were stand alones...oh and Elijah Wood plays a REAL cannibalistic nasty in it (and scarily well)!

Quentin Tarantino was involved as well as a guest Director or similar I believe, and I know from middle son that Rodriguez and Tarantino are buddies and it shows. The music was ace too, also by Rodriguez.

...but you DO have to like watching bits of bodies blown off and sliced off...

I thought it was excellent... the black and white and splashes of color gave it such a vivid style and I have to admit, the violence was perfect in its setting but I can see where it might be a bit much for some!

Yes, it really was comic book violence and worked somehow. I thought the whole style was so well done and can't wait for the DVD and the 'making of' bits which they are sure to have. Having skimmed through the graphic novel in the bookstore (and I am going to have to buy that one now!) the film really did capture the mood, but then the author worked on the film with Rodriguez, so I'm not surprised.

Love the icon, very appropriate!
