Now it's interesting isn't it, because I pictured him much darker in my mind too, but then when I was going to draw him I re-read the first time we see him, when he meets Cal, and the way he's described I thought he has to certainly start out lighter. No one with 'artfully tattered and tasselled clothes' and red, black and yellow hair can be that serious, not to begin with anyway!
