Well, at the risk of potential spoilers, Vaysh was damaged by Thiede in a previous attempt to do what he did to Pell, and consequently, Vaysh considers himself flawed and barren and not right for Ash anymore. Before he was Thieded he and Ash were together. Clear as mud?
