We went to the zoo...
Apr. 29th, 2006 05:07 pmLizzie really wanted to go to the zoo this weekend, and so we had a mum and daughter thing and took a picnic.

Lizzie's favourite!
Dudley Zoo is struggling like most zoos, as since (thankfully) in this country most zoos spend their money and efforts in schemes to protect animals, reintroduce them to the wild and preserve rare endangered species, they tend not to have the big crowd-pullers like zoos of old. As a child I remember going to London Zoo and the Big Cat House, seeing cage after cage of lions, tigers, cheetahs and the like, all pacing the small spaces. Terribly sad.
Still, they still manage to have a varied and interesting collection, and as the older big animals die they tend not to replace them, not in Dudley anyway.
