All the Young Dudes: Part three

Time spent struggling for survival had not quite killed their youthful dreams and ambitions. Cai still carried his guitar plectrums in the money pocket of his jeans, and occasionally he and Dante would sit and write lists of names for their band with a pencil stub on a scrap of paper.

"What about 'Reckless'?"

"Nah, too boring...a bit obvious."

Cai scratched a line through it. "What about...'I'm hungry and wish I had a big slice of pizza with extra melted cheese'?"

Dante glared at Cai as his stomach rumbled. "Now that was cruel, and just for that I am not going to share it with you when I get some!"

Cai giggled, knowing that Dante didn't mean a word of his threat. "Sorry. OK, what about 'Boys Heading North'?"

Dante smiled. "I quite like that one...and we are, aren't we...heading north I mean?"

Cai nodded and stared out at the view from where they sat on the crest of a hill. Before them stretched miles of shabby, empty suburbs, populated by stray cats and dogs and the occasional scavenging person.

"Yeah. Are you nervous at what we'll find?"

"To be honest? Shit scared, Cai. Fucking terrified." admitted Dante with a shudder.

Cai threw an arm about his friend's shoulder. "Me too, but we'll do it together. It won't be so bad...it can't be, can it? I mean, if it was that awful then no one would find these Wraeththu people would they? And from what we've read...they seem pretty much the same as us, just somehow stronger."

"Hmm...yeah, seems like it. I just want to know what's special about them, you know? All the stuff we've heard...don't you think they might be a bit...dangerous?"

Cai brought Dante's face round to kiss him tenderly on the lips. "Yes maybe they are Dan, but I want to be somewhere with people who accept how much I love you...who don't care about us being together. I'm sick of hiding it away, every time we see anyone. Letting go of our hands, not walking too close...that time when those kids threw stones and bricks at us when they caught us kissing, THAT scared me more than these Wraeththu."

Dante rested against Cai's shoulder, thinking back to when they were chased away from the last village. He shuddered at the memory, he really thought they were about to be killed. "Yeah, you are right. Come on then, I guess we should get it over with," he said getting to his feet and pulling Cai up after him.

The two boys scrambled down the hill and entered the town, cautiously looking for any signs of danger. Yet in spite of their guarded behaviour and watchfulness, they were taken utterly by surprise when four young creatures, apparently not much older than themselves, appeared from nowhere and grabbed them by the arms.

"Well, what have we here? A couple of runaways?" said the tallest boy, in a slightly sneering tone of voice.

"Hah, of course they are, otherwise they wouldn't be here, they'd be tucked up in their beds, safe and sound from all the ghouls in the streets," said the fair haired lad who held Dante captive.

"The question is, were you hoping to be found by us?" the first one spoke again. He seemed to be somehow in charge of the little group, judging by the way the others seemed to wait on him.

Cai pulled his arms free from his captor's grip, and stepped forward bravely. "That depends on who you are. Are you Wraeththu?" he said.

The four strangers chuckled. "You certainly have more guts than most, I'll give you that. What do you think we are?" said the leader, drawing himself up and swaggering slightly. He took Cai's breath away, with his long, sleek chestnut hair and dark green eyes. He wore make up, just a little, defining his eyes with kohl and his lips with rouge. He was slim and wore gold chains about his bare waist that emphasised a slight swell to his hips, while his chest was flat and muscular and covered in a short leather vest. He wore a skirt of dark red silk that reached below his knees and his feet were bare, yet he looked strong and perfectly capable of using the sharp steel dagger buckled at his side.

"I think you are...who we have been looking for," whispered Dante, and Cai nodded silently.

"What do you think?" whispered Dante when he and Cai finally had some privacy. They were curled up in the corner of an old classroom in the abandoned school that their hosts had made their headquarters. The walls still bore evidence of childish essays and drawings, the pages yellow and brittle, the once bright crayons faded.

"Well...they are different, certainly," replied Cai. "Strong, and...er...very beautiful," he added with an embarrassed glance at his friend.

Dante chuckled. "Yeah, I noticed. Fucking stunning aren't they? There's something about them...dangerous though. It's OK Cai, I think they are hot too, it doesn't mean I love you any less!"

Cai giggled, relieved his young lover felt the same way. "The weird thing though...have you noticed, there aren't any girls? I know all we ever heard about were the guys, but I'd assumed...

Dante frowned. "Me too. I guess I thought that there would be some females...somewhere...doing girl stuff. Oh well, I've no doubt we'll find out more when we've been here a while. They don't know they can trust us yet I suppose."

"Yeah," murmured Cai, nuzzling Dante's neck. "Anyway, at last we're on our own. I was beginning to think we'd never get any time to..." he sighed wistfully.

"To what?" grinned Dante, stretching his neck to allow Cai better access.

Cai said nothing but ran his fingers over Dante's shoulders and chest, down to the hem of his shirt. He tugged it free of Dante's jeans and slipped his hands underneath the soft material to the warm, smooth skin beneath.

Dante smiled and kissed Cai gently. "I love you."

"Yeah, me too...now take this off," laughed Cai.

Dante gave a dramatic sigh. "You are only saying that because you want my body."

"Too right," agreed Cai, stripping off his own shirt and pressing their naked chests together.

Dante wriggled to lie beneath him, spreading his legs and allowing his lover to settle between them. He reached up and tugged at Cai's zip, easing the old, worn jeans over his friend's lean hips.

No matter how many times they did this, Cai always shivered with excitement when he first felt Dante's body pressed to his. He reciprocated in tugging at his lover's shorts, shoving them down almost desperately.

"In a hurry Cai?" Dante giggled.

"Always. I want you."

Dante's eyes darkened and he pulled Cai into a frantic kiss. "You can have me, I'm yours...I've only ever been yours, and I always will be." He kicked his shorts free from where they hung on his ankles and wrapped his legs around Cai's waist.

For the next few minutes, the delicate fragrance of hot damp skin and murmured words of love and gentle giggles subtly transforming into soft sighs and moans, charged the atmosphere in the small classroom with a sweet, innocent passion. Then with a sharp nip of Cai's teeth in Dante's soft shoulder their lovemaking grew heated, their groans louder. "Cai, for fuck's sake I can't wait any longer," Dante whined, and wriggled, trying to impale himself on Cai's cock.

"Bossy as ever," muttered Cai, and moved his hips so that he could slip inside his friend's heat. They moved together, staring into each other's eyes and Dante reached down and tugged at his own erection with a practised hand. They had no need to speak, they each could see what they wanted, what they needed in the other's gaze. It had been like this since that first fumbling, inexperienced time in Dante's bedroom, an ability to read each other like an open page. Dante came with a cry of delight and Cai swiftly followed, the erotic sight of Dante's hand and stomach, slick with warm cream, proving too arousing to resist. Sated and exhausted, they lay together half dozing and leaning against the old, upturned teacher's desk, surrounded by the tattered debris of the last, final class. It was there that they were found by the fair haired wraith they had met before.

"Come on, Jeremiah wants you. He's waiting," he said briskly, bending to pick up their clothes with a slight expression of distaste at their nakedness. Cai and Dante looked at each other and blushed but their visitor didn't say anything more about their obvious recent activities. The two boys stood up and got dressed quickly.

"Who's...?" began Cai.

"Our leader...the boss. Don't worry, he doesn't bite...much. Not unless you ask him to," said their escort with a feral grin.

Dante and Cai both swallowed and nodded. "What does he want?" asked Dante.

"You."

They followed their host through the school corridors, past the old kitchens, art rooms and assorted classrooms until they came to what was once a gym, the climbing bars, vaulting horse and deflated footballs now waiting forever for children who never returned. The floor was covered with half a dozen mats, once the sort that would have been used for somersaults and fumbling gymnastics but now carried twisted sheets and dirty pillows.

"What's this, a squat or something? If we'd known there were beds, we wouldn't have slept in the classroom," Dante complained boldly. Cai grabbed his hand nervously.

Their host said nothing, but beckoned to a bored, black-haired youth smoking and leaning against the wall bars. "Go get Jeremiah. And what were you told about smoking in the gym?" he said, snatching the cigarette out of the surprised boy's hand. The boy scowled and sloped off.

"We try and keep this place clean for inceptions," the fair wraith muttered half to himself and then rubbed his hand over his face. "Shit, I didn't say that, OK?" he added anxiously.

Cai nodded and squeezed Dante's hand tightly. What the fuck had they got themselves into? And what did he mean by 'inceptions'? Cai glanced at his friend and saw that Dante wore a similar scared expression, underneath all his bravado.

"Yeah, OK, just get on with it, eh?" Dante replied, feigning a bored confidence.

The fair boy grinned. "Eager are you? Well I can hardly blame you for that, I was as well...couldn't wait to be like the rest of them. I'll tell you this, it was worth all the pain and..."

"...Misha! Enough! We don't want to frighten our guests, do we?" barked Jeremiah as he entered the gym, followed by his retinue of outlandish figures. Misha swallowed and nodded with an anxious glance towards Cai and Dante, then melted into the background.

Jeremiah clicked his fingers, pointing to the two young boys and four of his companions stepped forward, taking Cai and Dante firmly by their arms, one on each side. Cai struggled to pull away, a cold fear running through his veins. "Hang on, wait! What are you going to do with us?"

Jeremiah smiled coldly. "What you wanted when you came to find Wraeththu. We're going to make your wildest fantasies come true."

Dante's escort dragged him over to a mat on the far side of the hall and pushed him down on it, none too gently. "Hey, there's no need to be so rough," he snapped, giving Cai a brave smile across the room.

Cai smiled back as best he could, though he felt sick with fear. "Don't hurt him...please," he whispered, as he was lowered to his own mattress. One of the youths standing beside Jeremiah moved to a pulley at the side of the gym and tugged at the ropes. Makeshift curtains of faded scraps of cloth unfolded from the walls and provided screens around Cai's bed, stopping him and Dante from seeing each other. "Cai! Cai, I'm right here," came his lover's reassuring voice, but Cai could hear the terror Dante was trying to hide.

The two wraiths who escorted Cai remained silent, sitting on the floor beside him and holding him down with a heavy grip. Cai could hear everything going on behind the curtains, he could hear Dante's quick gasp and a whispered, 'what are you doing?' and then...then a scream and his name, his name called in utter panic and desperation. "Cai! Caaaaai, oh my god, CAI!" Then, nothing but a soft sob.

Cai fought against his captors, but they held him easily with shocking strength. "Don't struggle, he'll be fine. Your turn next," one of them said calmly just as Jeremiah appeared round the edge of the shabby curtains wiping his arm on a bloody towel. "Are you sure you can do both at once?" asked the other boy beside Cai. Jeremiah glared at him. "Fuck off, of course I can," he snapped back.

Cai took one look at the rusty knife in Jeremiah's hand and retched. "Hold him still!" Jeremiah ordered and Cai felt himself firmly restrained, held back against the mat. The boy on his left grabbed his arm and pulled it upward, shoving the sleeve of his shirt clear of his forearm as Jeremiah approached with the blade. Cai could hear Dante's soft cries and closed his eyes, all he had to do was just get through this and then he could go and comfort him.

He missed Jeremiah slashing a new cut deep into his own arm, but Cai's eyes flew open in shock and pain as his own flesh was torn apart. "Fucking bastard!" he cried, and struggled as Jeremiah pushed his blood-slicked skin against Cai's own, the burning liquid eagerly seeking a path deep into Cai's veins.

It hurt, god it HURT. Now Cai knew why Dante had screamed and called for him. He could hear a babbling voice yelling wild nonsense and making promises of his body, his soul, if only the pain would stop and he realised it was his own only when his throat hurt from crying. Cai was dimly aware of being given a sip of bitter tasting water, then everything faded into comforting black.
