Well, I'm back home...

I found out very early in the morning that things were going to be 'severely disrupted' with flights out from Heathrow, but on the strength of no further news is good news, I headed on down to London, dropping Simon off at the station and taking Lizzie to her nana and grandad's. By the time I got there it was pretty clear that this was going to be more of a problem than simply not taking hand luggage onto the plane. All the BA flights from Heathrow were cancelled, and so there was nothing I could do but stay and have a chat with my Dad, and then come home!

I am terribly disappointed and awfully sorry erestor that I couldn't get there! BUT as has been said time and time again in our journals, safety and health and security is far, far, far more important, and at least no one was killed. The alternative is too awful to think about.

Anyone who thinks the security response was an overreaction, or views the whole thing with a cynical, careless attitude...well, come and see me.

Couldn't have said it better. I think the BAA did exactly the right thing.

Yeah, I'm so glad they managed to take care of this thing without anyone getting hurt or any true tragedy. It's sad that people can put the world in a state like this. I'm very thankful I've still made it here, anyway - I just hope there'll be another occasion for us all to meet up again!

Yeah, it was impressive seeing it all swing into action, and it was taken care of thank heavens.

I AM disappointed! I haven't cried yet, but I am about to!!!

I feel so badly that this happened to you because you've had such a tough time over the last few months, and a lovely time with Erestor would be so wonderful. But even so, I feel so badly for all the people in the UK who have to live with the knowledge that there were people living among them (and maybe still more) planning to kill masses who innocently were travelling to see friends or loved ones or on business. All of it hurts the psyche and the heart of the whole nation, and I really do feel for you and your fellow citizens who have had to go through this nightmare. I can hardly feel angrier when people come to the UK or the US, take advantage of the freedom of the universities there and the freedoms of press or assembly, and take advantage of financial programs that help those from other nations, and then want to destroy those very people whose nation they took so much from and experienced freedom they would never have in their or their parents' homelands.

Living so close to Dulles Airport as I do and knowing a plane there was hijacked to kill and maim people in my own state, I know that no security response to a *real* threat is an overreaction. George Bush and company have been responsible in the past for manufacturing threats to swing elections, but today was real, and no inconvenience is more important than saving lives. Those who say otherwise are inhuman twits.

Yeah I know what you mean about a damaged psyche, it affects so much, including the backlash against anyone who seems to be different and thus hurting more innocent people.

Oh yes, boy did I need this! But I have other nice things coming along, and people are safe and safER now because of this. Thanks for the hugs, MUCH appreciated!

could not help thinking, as all this unfolded, how much better a job the UK did in thwarting catastrophe than the US.

The UK DID do a good job, definitely, but then there have been false alerts and genuine scares and so on and, unfortunately, I guess everyone learns by their mistakes, AND the mistakes or hesitance of others. The US apparently have been working closely as well, sharing expertise, so thank you USA. :)

I'm so sorry that these things happened just when you were going to the Minicon. You certainly deserved to go there! Anyway, I'm grateful that nobody got hurt, and that those who managed to fly, got there safely. I hope you will get a new chance later.
