After posting my current pics in here yesterday, nienna commented and I explained in my reply how I did them. It made me think it could be fun to show anyone interested, as it really isn't actually difficult...the 'skill' if any is deciding how far to go to push the image or choosing which colours to enhance and so on.

SO...this is the ordinary original photo of Witley Court in Worcestershire, not that far from me. It's a ruined country house open to the public.

Witley Court, garden entrance

All the work is done using Corel Painter IX, but you can do more or less the same thing in other graphics programmes.

This is the same photo, but I played with the brightness and contrast a bit...

...and ditto the hue and saturation, however I wouldn't normally have altered the hue but in this case did it to show the possibilities...

Next

...then I posterized it, which sort of reduces the numbers of actual colours and breaks them down - you can see what I mean quite clearly in the blue of the window openings I think...

...next I put it into the woodcut option and tweaked the heaviness and thickness of the black a bit, till I got something that wasn't so black you lost the detail, but wasn't so 'scratchy' and noisy that it just looked messy...

...and lastly, I used a photo colourizer brush to play around with the colours a bit...

...and there you go!
