OAP's...or Over Anxious Parents...
Jan. 29th, 2007 04:52 pmPhone call today from an OAP. Her daughter was apparently left ABANDONED for all of HALF AN HOUR at the Arts Centre yesterday evening as the teacher (who didn't have to be there at all and was only there to support the dance students who were running a practice) had the audacity to go home and leave the 'child' there ALONE (with the other girls and two college students and a Arts Centre full of strangers). As the mother said, 'anything could have happened'. And how old is her daughter?
FIFTEEN.
After the teacher phoned her and came to tell us in the office the result of the conversation, it seems that part (in fact probably the MAJOR part) of the problem, was that the college dance students were 'behaving inappropriately' and kissing. Excuse me, but surely they are entitled to kiss on a Sunday evening and in a social setting? Ahh, but it also seems that the two who WERE kissing were *gasp* both girls. NOW we have the root, methinks. Just as well she didn't tell me the finer details when she first called...
I LOVE my job!

Date: 2007-01-29 11:10 pm (UTC)(But being the mother of a 19 year-old son with Asbergers, who is unable to take initiative or make decisions on his own, and who REALLY would have been lost out there if he had been left with no guide to help him find the right bus to get home, point him in the right direction, tell him in details what to do, help him make necessary phonecalls since he can't use his cellphone himself, etc. etc., I can also see it from the other side. I'm sure I probably come across as an OAP myself to those who don't know that he has Asbergers since it doesn't show, and who don't understand how helpless the 19-year-old boy can be in any unexpected/unguided situation that would be perfectly normal for any other teenager.)

Date: 2007-01-30 07:16 am (UTC)We have students in the school who would never be left in a situation like that, but she isn't one of them, hence the stupidity of the fussing.
