A moan about job applications...
Jun. 24th, 2007 07:38 pmI really should not nap in the afternoon. The number of times I do so and wake up feeling slightly blue should have taught me by now that it isn't a good idea.
I guess it's mainly due to things being unsettled again with my work finishing in three and a half weeks. Bloody hell, THREE AND A HALF WEEKS! YES! No more poky little reception counter, no more arsey Behaviour Manager, no more being the sole receptionist, no more walking almost ankle deep in red Worcestershire mud and puddles to get to work...and no more money.
The latter means job hunting is now in earnest. I didn't get the job I interviewed for on Friday, apparently it was very close but I hadn't got the financial experience which the other candidate had. I have ANOTHER interview next Friday for Learning Resource Manager at another High School, which would be great to get but I think that I only stand a very slim chance as my library experience is waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the dim and distant past. The closing date for another application that I'd REALLY like is tomorrow so I'm sort of hoping that I'll get an interview for that as well.
Failing those two there seems to be so little around and I am tired of filling out the damn application forms. NO ONE wants CV's or resumes. ALL the jobs have these long and tedious forms and specifically say, NO CV's or RESUMES when you apply. It's utterly ridiculous as you can't show any skills or abilities that don't come under the STRICT categories that the form asks for, plus it takes fucking hours to complete these things and there is no room in the provided boxes to put details that could be relevant.
And joy, on top of all this I have endless fucking 'Friends' on TV in the background as it's all that Lizzie seems to watch at the moment. And don't get me started on incredibly messy teenagers.

Date: 2007-06-24 09:05 pm (UTC)That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. I can only chalk that up to the personnel department being too damn lazy to read about potential employer skills that would determine hiring better equipped labour.
All hail mediocrity. :\
On behalf of all of Amerikkka, I apologise for Friends. I'm sorry our shit-stain telly shows make it over there to dumb down your children.
I'm so very, very sorry.
May I suggest locking yourself in the bedroom and turning on your music loudly while surfing the intarbuttz for FFVII porn? :3

Date: 2007-06-24 10:26 pm (UTC)And I have SUCH a pretty and well ordered CV, nice font, nice headed graphics, simple but colourful being detailed icons from various woodcut style photos, something that shows who I am. But no, crappy forms instead.
And now am watching Glastonbury Live which is FAR better than 'Friends'. *grins*

Date: 2007-06-24 11:13 pm (UTC)appalledsurprised at just how badly paid and boring and exploitative they were, but that's how it is, unfortunately. The company I work for has advertised a few positions in the past few months (truck driver, forklift driver, general unskilled labour) and, after having weeded out the obviously useless candidates, who gets the job is really a matter of pot luck - "well, we've got six possibles, pick one", so although it is always a bit of a blow to the self-esteem when you don't get a job, it doesn't mean you were any worse than the person who did.
My Teenage Daughter doesn't watch TV, but inhabits a corner of the living room in which a pile of Stuff grows daily. I used to clear it up, but I am so demoralised these days that I just pick it up off the floor and stick it on her computer chair, and then she comes and dumps it all back on the floor again...

Date: 2007-06-25 03:58 am (UTC)I only go for the jobs with forms available online, or as downloads or email attachments on request (which anyway is almost all of them, these days), so I can just paste in my pre-prepared answers and either format the text to fit or modify the form to suit. Fucked if I'll handwrite that nonsense, or type it more than once over.
But in any case I'm not even seeing any jobs worth applying for lately - there are</> jobs advertised, but they all sound as if they'd suck at least as much as the one I'm currently in.

Date: 2007-06-25 06:38 am (UTC)Sorry about 'Friends.' God I hate that dumbass show.
I did watch a very interesting (read: strange) show on the BBC tonight. It was about the relationship these various interesting (read: strange) men have with their life size rubber dolls.
O.O
I hope you find the most fantastic job of your dreams, love.
