Computers and Paintings
May. 2nd, 2004 10:30 pmOh, the joys of having a sloooow computer. Trouble is, it is actually quite old, and now that we have had the pain and agony of getting rid of the sodding virus and having to reboot, and losing stuff, we have gone overboard on the virus protection, and have so much bloody security that it is using up all the poor little things capacity. We'll get it sorted eventually...
..Anyway...fortunately
anuanu had put my website together for me just before we lost stuff, so I do have a lot of drawings and stuff saved there, (and obviously most of the originals) so I was able to rescue some.
Here is the latest thing I did, (apart from Anu's sexy angel!) it was an acrylic painting for Maeglin, from the Ex Libris yahoo Group of Rattie's. It is of him, Maglor and Celebrimbor. It is actually based loosely on Botticelli's three Graces, from his painting, 'Primavera'. The Three Graces were considered the personification of love and were the handmaids of Venus. Seemed right somehow!

Date: 2004-05-02 06:57 pm (UTC)I have just been debating the value or real art vs CG in my lj with another artist, a fellow Canadian in Quebec.
There is something so special about the real thing! THANKS for posting that *^_^* It is very special and wonderfully rendered!

Personally, I think nothing beats real art really, that you have touched and made physically. You put so much of yourself into it, and I think it shows. That's not to say that CG isn't/aren't as good, but I think it is like comparing chalk and cheese..they are actually very different.

As for CG...yeah that one is such a sticky wicket as I find myself drooling over a lot of the work and wishing I could add that tool to my arsenal ~ because the online audience really is drawn to slick colour images. Yeah....it is easy on the eye but frustrating when you know the difference and people seemingly prefer the pixel stuff. I do mourn that animation is going full out to cg and the art of cel painting is almost over.
