Westering Home

I did this painting for a friend, Celeb, who posts on Rattie's Yahoo Group. It's of Maeglin, Maglor and Celebrimbor heading west.

I was trying to think of a way of portraying the three elves, that wasn't the same as the one I did earlier, and happened to be listening to an album of 'The Corries', an old Scottish folk singing duo, and heard their song, 'Westering Home'. It seemed appropriate for elves heading home!!

It's a lovely picture Sil! I love the colors and their expressions, it so peaceful *claps* I love it, calm, adorable and sweet.

Thanks Malda! It is in oils too..I've never used them before, I usually use acrylic, but oils were nice....very smooth on the brush....quite sensual!

Thanks Nov. It was funny, I thought of the song and the painting, and when I told Celeb where the inspiration came from, it happened to be a favourite song of hers too, which is amazing as it is not very well known, certainly not in England.

I love this piece! It LOOKS like they are going home indeed and they are all so lovely!

I usually paint in oils and I take forever... six months or so to do a painting. I think I should try with acrylics. Maybe I'd get something DONE!

The lyrics suggested the piece to me, it is a favourite song of mine. (I do have wide tastes, everything from Scottish folk music to Placebo!)

I must admit, I was pleased with this painting, and funnily enough, for the first time I used oils!...but I did use an alkyd in them, on the advice of my step-mum, which sped things up a bit. They were very different to acrylics, much smoother and more sensual!

I usually work REALLY fast, and acrylics suit me for that, but it was nice to take a bit more time over something for once.

Yes, I must confess Celebrimbor is my favourite in this picture. I was really pleased with his expression!

This is so beautiful. I cannot decide what aspect of the painting I like best! Celeb, I know, is thrilled with this gift.

Thank you! I love it too actually, I haven't used oils before, so it was something new to discover. And I adore the song, its always been one of my favourites, so I had it in mind all the time I was painting it.
