Heh we WERE thinking about it a lot last year, but without Joan, then suddenly thought 'actually, she'd love it' as she really enjoyed visiting the neolithic stuff in Cornwall, and THEN we saw the documentary, yes!
So Simon and me are driving up over a couple of days, taking the 'long' route and Joan and Lizzie will fly up from Southampton! It's all booked too!
Lucky you! I've been fascinated with Orkney since I saw "Oliver's Travels" a few years ago and re-watched it a good dozen times since (I came for Alan Bates and stayed for the lovely scenery :). Looking forward to living vicariously through your pictures. There will be pictures, yes?
I have no doubt there will be HUNDREDS of pictures, there usually are LOL! The place we're staying has wireless broadband too so I'll be able to upload them, thankfully.
I'm seriously envious too - it's a part of my own country I've never yet visited myself, although I once digitally habitat-mapped the whole of the Orkneys from aerial photographs in a previous job.
