In the church I 'attend' we had an Assistant Curate, Mike, who was training to be a Vicar. He has got his own parish now, and I know that he will do well. He is a very caring soul, and has been a real support to me with all the crap I have had to deal with from the actual Vicar at work, without being critical or judgmental. Anyway, I did him a pic which I am framing for him tomorrow (it looks nice printed out a bit larger on photo quality paper) with a nice gold frame as a 'welcome to your new parish' present.

Here it is, 'Madonna and Child'...

Russian artists, those who painted icons, used blue and gold a lot. I think. Or maybe not. Anyway, I see these two colours a lot in decorations of our churches.

yes, gold is obvious as a choice, and blue was traditionally the colour of Mary's clothes, as I believe the only way to get a really pure blue was to use lapis lazuli, which was expensive, hence its use for 'important' figures.
