I have surfaced...
May. 9th, 2007 07:11 amGah, what a day yesterday...
For a start, it was SERIOUSLY, RIDICULOUSLY, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLY BUSY. I CANNOT stress how utterly insane it was in work, especially in the morning. A constant stream of kids for over an hour who 'had lost their SATS timetable and could I print them off new ones?' Answer, no, but I could tell them where they were sitting, thanks to the exam deputy officer's foreward thinking. Add that to selling all the year 11 prom tickets, printing off kids' lost timetables, doing the post, dealing with stroppy parents, answering the phone, dealing with the BLOODY walky talkies and calling for Behaviour Managers, oh and doing my data input ALL by myself because I AM the SOLE receptionist working in a pokey corner of the AV (hellishly noisy and busy) room, for a school of nearly 2000.
And while talking about exams and exam officers, this week sees the year 9 SATS, the start, more or less, of the lower sixth AS levels, the upper sixth A2 levels and the year eleven GCSE's...so the exam officer goes off sick with stress. Seriously, I am not surprised. She was contracted to do about 200 hours throughout the whole year and has already done way over that and we haven't even reached the exam 'season', and they won't give her any more hours/money in spite of loading her with more work due to the various moves around the site with the building work.
Still on the subject of exams, would anyone like a teenage daughter, only two careful owners, comes with own attitude? She has her art AS level on Thursday, is HIGHLY stressed about it, will have to compromise over her access arrangements (due to the ME/CFS) which while not ideal are fair and have been worked out as best as they can. Of course Lizzie doesn't see it like that and whined and moped all evening. I have REALLY put my neck out over this and begged, pleaded, cajoled, encouraged etc etc etc to get her to be allowed to take the damn exam in the first place, to get whatever I can to make it comfortable and easier for her and while she has been working hard on her art project (it should be good) a little bit of gratitude or positive thought would go a LONG way to make me feel it's been worth it.
After a day like yesterday I REALLY did not need the attitude, so I shut myself in the bedroom with the laptop, whined on YIM, read smut, watched an episode of 'Heroes' (is hooked) and went to bed.
A HEARTFELT THANKS AND SINCERE APOLOGIES to those who had to listen to me whine and mope and be plain nasty and thoroughly unpleasant. You rock. You know who you are.
