I have surfaced...
May. 9th, 2007 07:11 amGah, what a day yesterday...
For a start, it was SERIOUSLY, RIDICULOUSLY, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLY BUSY. I CANNOT stress how utterly insane it was in work, especially in the morning. A constant stream of kids for over an hour who 'had lost their SATS timetable and could I print them off new ones?' Answer, no, but I could tell them where they were sitting, thanks to the exam deputy officer's foreward thinking. Add that to selling all the year 11 prom tickets, printing off kids' lost timetables, doing the post, dealing with stroppy parents, answering the phone, dealing with the BLOODY walky talkies and calling for Behaviour Managers, oh and doing my data input ALL by myself because I AM the SOLE receptionist working in a pokey corner of the AV (hellishly noisy and busy) room, for a school of nearly 2000.
And while talking about exams and exam officers, this week sees the year 9 SATS, the start, more or less, of the lower sixth AS levels, the upper sixth A2 levels and the year eleven GCSE's...so the exam officer goes off sick with stress. Seriously, I am not surprised. She was contracted to do about 200 hours throughout the whole year and has already done way over that and we haven't even reached the exam 'season', and they won't give her any more hours/money in spite of loading her with more work due to the various moves around the site with the building work.
Still on the subject of exams, would anyone like a teenage daughter, only two careful owners, comes with own attitude? She has her art AS level on Thursday, is HIGHLY stressed about it, will have to compromise over her access arrangements (due to the ME/CFS) which while not ideal are fair and have been worked out as best as they can. Of course Lizzie doesn't see it like that and whined and moped all evening. I have REALLY put my neck out over this and begged, pleaded, cajoled, encouraged etc etc etc to get her to be allowed to take the damn exam in the first place, to get whatever I can to make it comfortable and easier for her and while she has been working hard on her art project (it should be good) a little bit of gratitude or positive thought would go a LONG way to make me feel it's been worth it.
After a day like yesterday I REALLY did not need the attitude, so I shut myself in the bedroom with the laptop, whined on YIM, read smut, watched an episode of 'Heroes' (is hooked) and went to bed.
A HEARTFELT THANKS AND SINCERE APOLOGIES to those who had to listen to me whine and mope and be plain nasty and thoroughly unpleasant. You rock. You know who you are.

Date: 2007-05-09 07:43 am (UTC)You can always whine to me. The only problem is that we're about, oh, 8 hours apart or so, time-wise. So when you're getting up, I'm heading for bed...
*hugs you*

Date: 2007-05-09 08:55 am (UTC)Day out of hell, hm? Don't lock yourself up in the bedroom. Go for a walk, air your head and take a deep breath of fresh air. And kick some stones while you're at it, works wonders!
Did you tell Lizzie how you feel about it? Being ill is not an excuse for being ungrateful...

Date: 2007-05-09 02:58 pm (UTC)And yes, TRUST me, Lizzie knows ALL about how I feel!
Awwww thanks for the hug, it's appreciated!

Date: 2007-05-09 12:10 pm (UTC)Can't advise on the teen. My own 17 year old is bucking for a smackdown so at the very least....I can appreciate your restraint and the need to shut yourself in the bedroom. I do that a lot lately myself.
As for the job....well....um....*MORE BIG HUGS*

Date: 2007-05-09 03:02 pm (UTC)It was bearable today, I kept my head above water, just! Came home to Little Miss Panic, but he has gone for a driving lesson so I have the house to myself for an hour. Bliss.

Date: 2007-05-09 03:52 pm (UTC)No thanks, I've already got one. My own Teenage Daughter With Attitude was filled with righteous indignation when her appalling mother refused to sign the form for her choice of subjects for next year until she had talked to the TDWA's guidance teacher.
Naturally, the appalling mother's concern that dropping all her subjects that she'd been doing so far and taking up Outer Mongolian Studies and Macrame was not the single best decision that TDWA could make was interpreted as being "unsupportive". Much angst and sulking ensued, but no reference to all the times I've Got My Complain On on her behalf and written stroppy letters to the school.
In the end TDWA grudgingly decided to drop Outer Mongolian Studies in favour of doing a Biology higher. She's fed up with sciences, you see, because she took 3 science subjects previously, despite the fact that we advised her strongly against it and said she should do a language, preferably French, instead. She said she hated French.
She's now doing French, but as she didn't do the Standard Grade, she has to go to catch-up classes.
Would you like another TDWA to add to your collection?
...reading smut is the best therapy for TDWA syndrome
